American Leprosy Missions (ALM) Presents Dorothy Marron Memorial Scholarship Award
(Greenville, SC—May 13, 2008) Kaleb Ross of Taylors, SC, has been selected as a recipient of American Leprosy Missions’ (ALM) 2008 Dorothy Marron Memorial Scholarship.
Ross, a senior at Eastside High School, has been involved in missions work since middle school when he began traveling around the world during his summer breaks. He has since traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria and Bemba, Zambia and has also worked with local missions in Columbia, SC and Little Haiti in Miami, FL. Ross plans to attend Clemson University where he will study Political Science and Non-Profit Leadership.
Greenville-based ALM established The Dorothy Marron Memorial Scholarship fund to benefit graduating Greenville County high school seniors seeking to serve the disenfranchised and afflicted peoples in developing countries of the world.
"The young people receiving this award will be characterized by their friends and family for their acts of service to others," said Christopher J. Doyle, President of ALM. "ALM hopes this scholarship will encourage those students who are already living a life that is more about others than themselves."
Two students will be chosen annually as recipients of the $2,000 scholarship. Seniors graduating from public or private schools as well as home-schooled students are eligible. Recipients will be able to apply for renewal for up to three years.
American Leprosy Missions is the oldest and largest non-profit organization in the United States providing holistic cure and care to people affected by leprosy and related conditions.
