Kenneth Behr, former president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability to address “The Integrity Crisis in America” during the second installment of American Leprosy Missions’ James D. Cockman Distinguished Lecture Series
(Greenville, SC—May 27, 2008) Greenville-based American Leprosy Missions (ALM) will be hosting the second installment of the James D. Cockman Distinguished Lecture Series on May 28, 2008 with featured speaker Kenneth Behr speaking on the topic The Integrity Crisis in America.
Behr is the former president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), an organization which provides accreditation to leading Christian nonprofit organizations that faithfully demonstrate compliance with established standards for financial accountability, fund-raising and board governance.
Ordained as a minister with the Evangelical Church Alliance, Behr served four years on the pastoral team as Executive Director of Operations/COO at North Way Christian Community, a 2,500 member non-denominational congregation near Pittsburgh, PA. Previous to working in ministry, Mr. Behr spent 23 years and had assignments on three continents for Ford Motor Co. He has served on a number of nonprofit boards and is presently the board facilitator for Christian Alliance for Orphans. He has also served as an adjunct professor teaching International Business, Entrepreneurship and Finance at Geneva College and at Florida Atlantic University.
The series is named in honor of the late James “Jim” Cockman, who served for three years as the chairman of ALM’s Board of Directors. Under his leadership, ALM expanded its programs to include the treatment of Buruli ulcer and began research and development for a vaccine against leprosy. As a successful business leader, Cockman used his influence and resources to advocate for those whose voices could not be heard. He served numerous professional groups and public service organizations. He and his wife, Cathy, raised six children and cared for many foster children.
American Leprosy Missions is the oldest and largest non-profit organization in the United States providing holistic cure and care to people affected by leprosy and related conditions.
