Tom Young, Treasurer
Tom Young joined the board of American Leprosy Missions in 1980 and has served as an active member for 31 of the last 34 years. During his long tenure, he has consistently been impressed by the organization’s commitment to good stewardship and by its faithful service to people suffering from leprosy. He is currently the chairman of the audit committee.
After graduating with a degree in Math from Wheaton College in 1956 and a master’s degree in Actuarial Math from the University of Iowa in 1958, Tom served six months as an officer in the United States Army Security Agency. Following his stint in the Army, Tom worked for an insurance company in Hartford, Connecticut and became a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. Tom worked for 33 years as a consulting actuary. During 17 of these years, he was president and co-owner of a small consulting firm in northern New Jersey. Tom offered advice to both small and large corporate clients (such as FMC, McGraw-Hill and Siemens) on their retirement programs and making sure these clients complied with rapidly increasing and complicated government regulations.
