Celtic Thunder Partners with American Leprosy Missions on North American Mythology Tour
(Greenville, S.C., September 30, 2013)—Celtic Thunder launched the United States portion of their North American Mythology tour over the weekend with a concert in Buffalo, New York. There is an important cause on the minds of the band members this tour: helping people affected by leprosy. Throughout the tour, stopping in 65 cities across North America, the band will be raising support for the work of American Leprosy Missions and The Leprosy Mission Canada, two organizations that work to make a lasting difference in the lives and communities of people affected by leprosy in developing nations.
Bill Simmons, president and CEO of American Leprosy Missions, is pleased to be partnering with Celtic Thunder again. “Although leprosy is one of the oldest-known diseases, very few North Americans are aware that it still exists. Yet every two minutes someone is diagnosed with leprosy around the world. We hope that Celtic Thunder will raise awareness about this terrible disease, which often affects the poorest people, causing isolation and life-long disabilities,” said Simmons.
After the band wraps up their tour, two members, Ryan Kelly and Colm Keegan, will travel to Nepal to see the work of American Leprosy Missions and The Leprosy Mission Canada. The two artists will meet some of the children, men and women who will benefit from the awareness and support generated from the Mythology tour.
